For Scope Miami 2026, Blumka Contemporary presents a two-person exhibition featuring new works by Dan Witz and Nick Rooney, exploring the intersection of historical technique and contemporary vision. Together, the artists bridge centuries of painterly innovation, using classical methods to examine the tension between realism and abstraction, order and chaos, tradition and reinvention.

Dan Witz employs his own adaptation of the foreshortening technique first developed in the 14th century, using it to construct aerial perspectives that capture the complexity of modern life. Each painting conforms to the precise outline of the figure, the irregular shape heightening the sense of focus within his scenes while echoing the precision of his technique. His works oscillate between chaos and calm, immersing viewers in meticulously rendered moments that evoke both the intensity and stillness of life in the 2020s.

Nick Rooney, by contrast, reimagines the language of Renaissance Still Lifes interplaying through a backdrop of modern abstraction. Working on irregularly shaped canvases, he expands the visual field beyond traditional boundaries, transforming the surface into a stage where space and gravity are continuously reanalyzed. His compositions juxtapose classical motifs with abstract geometry, creating works where styles and sensibilities from different centuries converge in a dialogue between timeless form and modern perception.

Together, Witz and Rooney embody Blumka Contemporary’s mission to connect the ideas and techniques of the past with the visual narratives of the present — a conversation that unfolds across the surfaces of their paintings and through the evolving continuum of art itself.

Kelly Wang

Booth: F023

Kelly Wang combines contemporary and ancient influences, as well as American and Asian traditions, to create multimedia works infused with elements of cultural identity and personal grief. She creates landscapes of the heart that revolve around places, people, or events with which she shares a deep sense of belonging. For the artist, such heartscapes are not natural phenomena but creations of the mind and heart that often generate tensions related to human identity or crisis. These moments give rise to original and experimental works of art that challenge the way we think about heritage and the way we see the world around us. Walking a tightrope between past and future, west and east, Wang explores the boundaries of calligraphy, painting, and sculpture in new ways while confronting life and mourning.
