Karl Orion (b. Denver) is a multidisciplinary artist recognized for his richly detailed oil paintings that depict a cohesive and deeply layered otherworldly realm. He studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has maintained a dual practice as an artist and educator, teaching independently and through the Art Students League of Denver.

Orion’s work focuses on botanicals drawn from an imagined world, where flora and fauna serve as rich metaphors for the human experience. While his landscapes explore nature’s enduring cycles of life and death, offering viewers a sense of refuge, solace, and psychological calm, they simultaneously function as complex allegorized vessels for deeper investigations into mental states and social concerns.

His distinctive approach has garnered significant institutional and critical attention. Writing for The Wall Street Journal, critic Brian P. Kelly noted that Orion "draws on Dutch Golden Age still lifes in his nature scenes that invert the genre, instead showing nature's dominance over man in their precisely rendered flora and fauna that symbolize the artist's psyche."

Orion's work has been featured in premier exhibitions and contemporary art fairs nationally, including the SPRING/BREAK Art Show (NYC), the Hamptons Fine Art Fair (2025), and a celebrated solo presentation with Blumka Contemporary at Future Fair (NYC, 2026). He continues to expand his artistic practice and influence from his studio in Denver.
